The Full Dental Implant Restoration Explained

The Crown
Here seen from the side, this is a front lateral incisor. There are many options for the type of crown used such as porcelain fused to metal and the latest zirconia based crowns. Not every crown requires an implant; for example, if 3 teeth need replacing next to each other then usually only 2 implants are required with 3 crowns on top.

The Abutment
The post, which is the upper portion of the abutment, will in this case have the crown cemented onto it after the lower section is attached to the implant below. Notice the curved horizontal line which is designed to fit the lower curve of the crown. None of the abutment will be visible once the crown is fitted onto it. There are options for abutments from standard abutments right up to the most aesthetically pleasing zirconia abutments used primarily for front teeth.

The Dental Implant
None of the implant is visible once the abutment and crown have been fitted. There are a range of implants available and usually you will be able to choose the one that suits your budget. Some implants are better suited to solve certain problems but you will always be advised where this is the case.

COMPLETE BRIDGE ON 4 IMPLANTS
(ALL ON FOUR)

What is the All-on-Four Technique?

“All-on-Four” is a dental procedure designed for people who have lost many or all of their teeth. Think of it as a way to give you a brand-new set of teeth with just four dental implants and is only suitable for the lower arch.

How Does It Work?

  1. Dental Implants: Dental implants are small titanium screws that we place into your jawbone. They act like the roots of your teeth. Over time, they securely bond with your bone, providing a stable foundation.
  2. Number “Four”: The special thing about “All-on-Four” is that we only need to place four of these implants in strategic positions and angles on each jaw. This means fewer surgeries and often avoids the need for bone grafting, which some people require if they’ve lost bone volume.
  3. The Teeth: Once the implants are in place, a full arch of teeth (that looks and functions like natural teeth) is securely attached to these four implants.

Why Consider All-on-Four?

  • Look & Feel: The new set of teeth look natural, and many patients find them more comfortable than dentures.
  • Functionality: You can eat, speak, and smile with confidence, just like with natural teeth.
  • Convenience: Unlike traditional dentures, there’s no need to remove them nightly for cleaning.
  • Fast: The procedure often allows for temporary teeth to be placed on the same day as the implant surgery, so you won’t be left without teeth.
  • Bone Health: Dental implants help in preserving your jawbone, preventing the sagging facial appearance that can occur with bone loss.

Is It Right for You?

While “All-on-Four” is a wonderful solution for many, it’s important to have a thorough evaluation with your dentist or oral surgeon. They will assess your oral health, bone density, and discuss your goals to determine if this or another solution is best for your unique situation.

COMPLETE BRIDGE ON 6 IMPLANTS
(ALL ON SIX)

Why is All-on-Six Preferred for the Upper Jaw?

  1. Anatomy and Bone Quality: The upper jaw tends to have softer bone than the lower jaw. By using six implants instead of the four used in the “All-on-Four” technique, the forces when you chew are spread out over more implants. This provides better support and stability, especially given the nature of the bone in the upper jaw.
  2. Maximum Support and Distribution: Six implants can provide a broader distribution of force. This means that when you bite or chew, the pressure isn’t just on a few spots but is distributed more evenly. This helps in reducing the risk of implant failure or complications.
  3. Redundancy: By having an extra two implants compared to the “All-on-Four” method, there’s a bit of a safety net. If one implant has an issue, the others can still provide support. This is especially beneficial in the upper jaw due to its softer bone structure.
  4. Increased Arch Coverage: More implants can offer a broader coverage of the arch in the upper jaw. This helps in creating a more natural-looking set of teeth and may provide a better fit and feel for the patient.
  5. Improved Aesthetics and Functionality: With the added support and stability of six implants, there’s more flexibility in designing a prosthetic that doesn’t just look good but also functions effectively. You’ll get a set of teeth that feel more natural and allow you to eat a wider variety of foods without concern.

The Implant Center surgeons will choose the number of implants based on a patient’s individual anatomy, jawbone condition, and specific needs. While the All-on-Six might be favored for many upper jaw cases, thorough evaluation determines the best treatment option for each patient.

Dental Tourism for 1 Tooth Replacement Procedure

Dental tourism is really only suitable for those having extensive dental work as patients need to add the cost of flights and accommodation to their dental fee. If you require just 1 tooth replacement with an implant procedure you won’t be able to save money by travelling abroad.

As way of comparison here is an estimated cost breakdown for a single tooth replacement treatment, which includes a German/Swiss implant, abutment, post-healing panoramic X-ray, implant uncovering, impressions, and a porcelain bonded crown. The costs are compared for both London and Budapest locations:

Single Tooth Replacement Estimate

Number of Appointments:

  • In London: Approximately 4-5 appointments are needed.
  • In Budapest: 2 visits are required, spaced 3-4 months apart, with the first visit lasting 2 days and the second visit lasting 5 days. This would involve 2 sets of flights and a total of approx. 9 nights accommodation.

Special Consideration for Front Teeth:

  • If the implant is to be placed in the front area, adjacent to natural teeth, we often recommend using a metal-free zirconium abutment and crown. While more expensive, this option offers superior aesthetics, especially in visible areas.

Please note that the final cost may vary based on the specifics of each case, especially the bone quality and the location of the implant. We can provide a more accurate estimate once we have more detailed information about your dental needs.
