“All-on-Four” is a dental procedure designed for people who have lost many or all of their teeth. Think of it as a way to give you a brand-new set of teeth with just four dental implants and is only suitable for the lower arch.
Because of the increased bone density of the lower jaw the 4 implants are able to support a full arch of 12 porcelain crowns – beware of those offering only 10 crowns and check if they are offering only ‘plastic’ teeth.
Dental implants are small titanium screws that we place into your jawbone. They act like the roots of your teeth. Over time, they securely bond with your bone, providing a stable foundation.
The special thing about “All-on-Four” is that we only need to place four of these implants in strategic positions and angles on each jaw. This means fewer surgeries and often avoids the need for bone grafting, which some people require if they’ve lost bone volume.
Once the implants are in place, a full arch of 12 porcelain crowns (that looks and functions like natural teeth) is securely attached to these four implants.
The new set of teeth look natural, and many patients find them more comfortable than dentures.
You can eat, speak, and smile with confidence, just like with natural teeth.
Unlike traditional dentures, there’s no need to remove them nightly for cleaning.
The procedure often allows for temporary teeth to be placed on the same day as the implant surgery, so you won’t be left without teeth.
Dental implants help in preserving your jawbone, preventing the sagging facial appearance that can occur with bone loss.
While “All-on-Four” is a wonderful solution for many, it’s important to have a thorough evaluation with your dentist or oral surgeon. They will assess your oral health, bone density, and discuss your goals to determine if this or another solution is best for your unique situation.

The upper jaw tends to have softer bone than the lower jaw. By using six implants instead of the four used in the “All-on-Four” technique, the forces when you chew are spread out over more implants. This provides better support and stability, especially given the nature of the bone in the upper jaw.
Six implants can provide a broader distribution of force. This means that when you bite or chew, the pressure isn’t just on a few spots but is distributed more evenly. This helps in reducing the risk of implant failure or complications.
By having an extra two implants compared to the “All-on-Four” method, there’s a bit of a safety net. If one implant has an issue, the others can still provide support. This is especially beneficial in the upper jaw due to its softer bone structure.
More implants can offer a broader coverage of the arch in the upper jaw. This helps in creating a more natural-looking set of teeth and may provide a better fit and feel for the patient.
With the added support and stability of six implants, there’s more flexibility in designing a prosthetic that doesn’t just look good but also functions effectively. You’ll get a set of teeth that feel more natural and allow you to eat a wider variety of foods without concern.
The Implant Center surgeons will choose the number of implants based on a patient’s individual anatomy, jawbone condition, and specific needs. While the All-on-Six might be favoured for many upper jaw cases, thorough evaluation determines the best treatment option for each patient.
