What is the All-on-Four Technique?

“All-on-Four” is a dental procedure designed for people who have lost many or all of their teeth. Think of it as a way to give you a brand-new set of teeth with just four dental implants and is only suitable for the lower arch.

Because of the increased bone density of the lower jaw the 4 implants are able to support a full arch of 12 porcelain crowns – beware of those offering only 10 crowns and check if they are offering only ‘plastic’ teeth.

How Does It Work?

  1. Dental Implants: Dental implants are small titanium screws that we place into your jawbone. They act like the roots of your teeth. Over time, they securely bond with your bone, providing a stable foundation.
  2. Number “Four”: The special thing about “All-on-Four” is that we only need to place four of these implants in strategic positions and angles on each jaw. This means fewer surgeries and often avoids the need for bone grafting, which some people require if they’ve lost bone volume.
  3. The Teeth: Once the implants are in place, a full arch of 12 porcelain crowns (that looks and functions like natural teeth) is securely attached to these four implants.

  • Look & Feel: The new set of teeth look natural, and many patients find them more comfortable than dentures.

Why is All-on-Six Preferred for the Upper Jaw?

  1. Anatomy and Bone Quality: The upper jaw tends to have softer bone than the lower jaw. By using six implants instead of the four used in the “All-on-Four” technique, the forces when you chew are spread out over more implants. This provides better support and stability, especially given the nature of the bone in the upper jaw.
  2. Maximum Support and Distribution: Six implants can provide a broader distribution of force. This means that when you bite or chew, the pressure isn’t just on a few spots but is distributed more evenly. This helps in reducing the risk of implant failure or complications.
  3. Redundancy: By having an extra two implants compared to the “All-on-Four” method, there’s a bit of a safety net. If one implant has an issue, the others can still provide support. This is especially beneficial in the upper jaw due to its softer bone structure.
  4. Increased Arch Coverage: More implants can offer a broader coverage of the arch in the upper jaw. This helps in creating a more natural-looking set of teeth and may provide a better fit and feel for the patient.
  5. Improved Aesthetics and Functionality: With the added support and stability of six implants, there’s more flexibility in designing a prosthetic that doesn’t just look good but also functions effectively. You’ll get a set of teeth that feel more natural and allow you to eat a wider variety of foods without concern.

The Implant Center surgeons will choose the number of implants based on a patient’s individual anatomy, jawbone condition, and specific needs. While the All-on-Six might be favoured for many upper jaw cases, thorough evaluation determines the best treatment option for each patient.

I am really pleased with my dental implants and with the standard of care I received from all the staff at Smilesavers.I have been wearing dentures at the top of my mouth for many years and had recently lost more teeth, so I decided to look into dental implants. The initial contact at the London clinic was friendly and informative and the quotation was clearly set out. I needed 12 teeth fitting.The staff are really professional and skilful. The first treatment in Budapest, including two extractions, some bone grafting and fitting 6 camlog implants took only one and a quarter hours.My second visit was 4 months later and I received the same great care as they took impressions and built the teeth. I am writing this 3 months after my second visit and the teeth look great and are a good fit and firm. For the first time for many years, I can bite firmly with my front top teeth!As a bonus, there was free time between treatments on the second visit. Budapest is a lovely city to explore and it has a really good transport system with trams, buses and underground. You can buy a daily ticket for a very reasonable cost.I would definitely recommend this company.

My experience with Smile Savers has been excellent . I have had 3 implants done in the last few years. The staff are kind and always make me feel comfortable. I have fallen in love with Budapest , the beautiful architecture, the Thermal Baths, the lovely Christmas market and we have visited places outside Budapest too, easily accessible by train, including lake Balaton. Martonvasar where Beethoven composed 'Fur Elise' is a short train ride away. I have also combined the Budapest visit with Vienna, only a few hours away by train. Okay, I'll admit, I was a little nervous about getting 12 crowns done all at once. But the team in Hungary totally put me at ease and before I knew it, the whole thing was over. And let me tell you, my smile looks SO much better now. It's like I have a brand new set of teeth. The crowns blend in perfectly with my natural ones and people keep telling me how great my smile looks. Plus, I saved a ton of money by getting the work done in Hungary instead of back home. If you're thinking about getting some dental work done, I'd definitely recommend checking out this clinic. They rock!

I have had quite extensive dental work at Smile Savers including implants and crowns and I really can not recommend them highly enough! I was a very nervous patient but throughout the process I was completely put at ease.The customer service team of Zita and Veronika were exceptional at every point, with great communication and organisation, both for the London and subsequent Budapest appointments, also organising transfers from and to the airport in Budapest as well as helping with accommodation recommendations, and Dr Nemeth Zsolt and Dr Attila Kaman, the expert dental surgeons who carried out the work, were superb in every respect. I always felt that I was in very safe hands, and I am delighted with the results. I only wish I had done this sooner!

Excellent dentist! Visited the London Clinic for a dental estimate and we agreed on the treatment of multiple implants plus other work, root canal etc. I booked my package to Budapest with the very helpful and highly responsive customer support person. The whole process was seamless, the work is excellent, I got a good deal on the hotel which is a 10 min walk from the clinic, free transfers from the airport to the hotel and back again. I visited a number of UK dentists for quotes for this work - and I will never use a UK dentist again. There is ample pain relief, it is fast, efficient, I can’t fault it. Thank you SmileSavers!UPDATE:It’s now May 2023 and I’ve completed my course of treatment. I am thrilled with the result. Dr Tomba (and others) did an amazing job. So natural - great result. I’m very happy and wanted to give the end result as I trusted reviews when making my choice and I definitely stand behind this 5 star review.

Could not recommend more highly,one of the few overseas dentists who have a clinic in London so you can go there and get analysis and estimates.I chose to get my smile and all my teeth completely changed.the work was done in Budapest and the results were first class at a cost of a half or less of what I would have paid in the UK.
